Daily Routine
Our Daily Routine
At Madley Pre-School we believe routine helps children to feel secure. We try to keep to the same routine most days, with flexibility in timing as the day progresses. Below is an example of our daily routine.
9am - Arrival – As children arrive, they are encouraged to be responsible for their shoes, coat and other belongings by putting them in their named basket or on their named peg. Children will then be encouraged to self-register and put on their slippers. Children will then be able to choose an activity from the 'Choices Board' whilst all the children are safely registered.
Early morning - We begin our day with a 'daily run' around the school field and then settle into outdoor learning, exploring different sensory opportunities; sand, water, mud kitchen play, or creative large-scale mark-making opportunities. As well as gardening, building, digging, and developing our gross motor skills.
Mid morning - Snack time and Planning –. A healthy snack is provided, and we enjoy a sociable snack time, where children and practitioners sit down together enjoying developmentally appropriate conversations. We use snack time as a learning opportunity, perhaps to talk with the children about healthy eating or the importance of staying hydrated. Children are encouraged to pour their own drinks and tidy away their glasses afterwards. As we finish snack, we encourage the children to plan their day and express the learning they would like to develop.
The children engage in play indoors - During this time, the early year’s practitioners will be supporting children in their chosen play and undertaking observations of the children’s learning experiences, to further develop their next steps. Small groups of children may also be invited to join in a focused activity that runs alongside their free play. The focused activity is built on the children’s previous experiences, and encompasses the areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
Late morning – Responsibility and Reflection – Within small teams, the children are encouraged to be responsible for tidying away resources in an area of the setting. We all come together, and the children reflect on what they have been busy exploring that morning.
Rhyme and Story Time –A selection of action rhymes/songs and books are shared with the children, either in small groups or all together.
12pm - End of morning session - We say good-bye to any children attending for the morning only.
12pm - Lunch Time – All children are asked to bring in a healthy packed lunch. Staff sit with the children to encourage safe eating practices. Good manners and healthy eating habits are encouraged throughout.
Relaxation Time – After lunch, children spend time resting their bodies, listening to relaxing music.
Early afternoon - The children engage in further outdoor play with practitioners supporting children in their chosen play and undertaking observations of the children’s learning experiences, to further develop their next steps. Small groups of children may also be invited to join in a focused activity that runs alongside their free play.
