That's All Folks
“That’s All Folks!” is a thematic unit based around the history and development of animation and cartoons. It takes in elements of history, art and computing / ICT and starts with learning about the
beginnings of animation, looking at zoetropes and flip books, before moving on to the dawn of the Disney age. Then, the process of animation is explored further, with an opportunity for the children to exchange their own design ideas and create their own animations.
Athens v Sparta
“Athens v Sparta” is a thematic unit based on Ancient Greece, with a key focus on history. We will learn how the Greeks used to live, including the key aspect of mythology, especially highlighting the conflicts that characterised Ancient Greece. We will also visit Hereford museum and learning resource centre for an Ancient Greece workshop and touch some real artefacts.
May the force be with you
'May the force be with you is a thematic unit that is science based. We will learn how things move on different surfaces, observe how some forces need contact between two objects and some forces act at a distance, observe how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others Also, describe magnets as having two poles and predict whether two magnets will attract or repel each other, depending on which poles are facing. We will also compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of whether they are attracted to a magnet, and identify some magnetic materials.
Lindow Man
Lindow Man’ is a thematic unit with a history focus, telling the story of prehistoric Britain,
from the Stone Age to the Celts. We will learn when the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age took place, what evidence exists for these different historical periods (Stonehenge, Skara Brae etc.) and know who the Celts were, in particular, Boudicca. As part of this theme we will also visit Hereford museum and learning resource centre for a pre history workshop where we will see some artefacts from these periods.
Come Fly With Me Africa
“Come Fly With Me! Africa” is a thematic unit based around the continent of Africa, with a key focus on
geography and history. We will be learning about the location of Africa and identifying its largest
countries. Alongside this geography element, we will study the Benin era. We will also learn about
African culture, in particular typical African food and folk tales and also try some African drumming with Landing.
