Stackpole 2017

Our annual residential visit to Stackpole goes from strength to strength and provides a wide variety of experiential learning and enriching pursuits in the most incredible setting. The scenery is absolutely stunning and always inspires fantastic art and written work.

The children take part in the John Muir award where the main aims are to discover, explore, conserve and share.  The children document their environmental impact and how they are helping the planet.  The 11 returning children are now planning the next stage to gain an enhanced award by sharing plans in school or to a wider audience.

We had a great journey down through the Brecon Beacons and when we arrived, the children were very organised unpacking the minibuses and getting themselves settled in the rooms.

Day 1

The children visited Freshwater West where they walked along the beach and through the dunes in the wet and windy weather.  It was great fun.

Day 2

Four groups  went climbing, rock pooling, exploring the coast, beaches and orienteering.  They found lots of interesting creatures that live in and around the coastal waters and really enjoyed climbing and orienteering along the rugged landscape.

Day 3

The children have been canoeing, cycling, rock pooling and orienteering.  They enjoyed a fabulous night walk along the beach and had a moonlit beach party too!

Day 4

Final full day, filled with exciting activities.  Everyone up early, rooms tidy, enjoyed breakfast and eager for the challenges today will bring!

Day 5

Up early and all rooms cleaned and tidied.  Amazing teamwork and organisation.  Enjoyed a hearty breakfast before packing the minibuses.  Final visit to the beach for some beach cleaning then back for a delicious lunch before they head home to Madley.

The children are incredibly proud of their achievements and we are too;  they have grown in confidence and are excited to engage in these challenging activities.

Back at base, they have all eaten really well; the food is delicious and the children have enjoyed everything on the menu (our food waste is measured!).   They have slept soundly and have been up early (about 0720hrs), doing jobs, making their beds, vacuuming and tidying their rooms! We had some room inspections and they scored 9.5 on day 2!)   Here are a few photos for you to enjoy.
